We really cannot give what we do not have. Our cups should not just be half empty or running out. Instead, it should be overflowing. That overflow then, is what we can share with others.

In this episode, I discuss the importance of healing both the body and the mind and that we cannot just take care of just the body or just the mind, because these are always interconnected. The importance of this is for us to better take care of ourselves until our cups are full and overflowing so we can give more.

Welcome, everyone. This is your host, Mariana Thomas, and today's episode, the importance of healing the body in mind. Why I decided to create this topic? I wanted to talk about this because I was sitting down the other day, in the middle of all my fruits and vegetables and supplements, and everything that I'm doing, to continue to heal myself, and to nurture myself, I think is one of the most important things in my life, you know, every single day is to make sure that I am self-caring myself. So let me repeat that. Let me ask you this question. Let me ask you this question. Have you ever felt that you were carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? If so, you are not alone. There are so many people in the world that feel that way and I certainly felt that way before. Yes, I'm talking about that time when I was at a high-level position, working 24/7. For many, many years, I was really running around nonstop, with no rest, and a little bit of time to be intentional with putting into me. I was giving giving giving, but not receiving and not even giving to myself and I don't think that thing has slowed down for the world. I think it has to slow down a little bit for me when it comes to taking care of myself, because in today's fast-paced society, and I think even though we are in a situation where a lot of things have stopped, we’re still moving fast. You know, I feel like everyone is constantly under pressure to be successful, to go for the next thing, the “What else can I do?” And let me tell you, there's nothing wrong with that because I'm that way, I'm a driven person, I love to win and when you are under constant stress, that makes it worse because you want to do do do do versus being in, versus stopping for a minute and really just go in and think about what is going on with that pressing moment for you. What is happening?

So that's why it's important to find ways to relax and to de-stress your body and your mind on a regular basis because when your body is in constant stress, the mind takes a beating along with the body. They both are connected so both are going to suffer and one way to do this, to take care of your body and your mind is through holistic healing methodologies like yoga and meditation, which I practice. I'm a certified yoga teacher, as you guys know, as well as a certified Pilates instructor. You know, a comprehensive one and also a meditation and mindfulness teacher. So these practices can help us to regain equilibrium and feel more at peace with ourselves. So it's going to help you to clear, I don't like that word balance, but I like the word harmony. It’s kind of like finding the harmony between your mind, your body, your heart, and your spirit if you want to say that. So if you are feeling overwhelmed, right at this moment, I want you to think about and don't hesitate to give a holistic healing a try and look for things that may help you because let me tell you something, you may be surprised at how good it can make you feel just like going for a massage and yes, these days, you may not want somebody to touch your body, or to get close to someone, you can even do self-massage. I do it to myself all the time. Yes, I’m staying in front of the mirror and I just massage myself and there are places in my body that I may not be able to reach, but I still give myself some love by massaging my own self and that is a holistic healing practice, just that, you know, the body and the mind are interconnected and one cannot be healed without the other. They work together. So if you are feeling down and stressed out, your body will feel it as well. Okay? What’s happening in the mind is transmitted to the body, into your soul, to your spirit, so taking care of your body, exercising, eating healthy food, getting enough sleep, is very important for your physical and mental health.

You know, I used to sleep very little, you know, I used to come home really late and go to bed really late, but the downside of that is that I was getting up really early. So the hours of sleep would vary a little and guess what I was getting up, ready to go with a full agenda, and because I was, I am one of those people there wants to stay in shape, that wants to look good for my role, I was working out at 6 AM already sometimes.

I remember I had a Pilates, private teacher, myself, even though I'm a Pilates teacher, I still hire someone that was keeping me accountable and it was forcing me to I will say to challenge myself with my body and that was amazing, but yes, I was doing and it pays when I was so tired. My body was so tired. My mind was so tired that I don't know if I was even getting the benefit. Yeah, because I could tell my body was not responding in a way that it should. Yeah, I look a little okay on the outside, but on the inside, I was drained and that's when I knew that my body was a little runout. I was working a little too much. It’s like getting in my car and never turning the car off. Imagine that. So the body and mind are interconnected and one cannot be healed without the other. Yes, just like what I just told you. So taking care of your body is really really important as well as your mind. So if you are experiencing physical pain or illness, it's time to pay attention, my friends, because that is how I was feeling. You know when I brought my body and my mind down, that's when the illness is starting to appear. Pain. I remember having this surgery, I was fixing something with my dentist, and all of a sudden, my neck hurt and yes, I think it was from the dental surgery, but also was because my body was so tired. I think that I was not even in the right position when I went for the surgery. So it's very, very crucial that you pay attention to this really, really crucial.

So we need it and to also take a stand to take care of ourselves mentally and emotionally, seek coaching, or therapy, or some type of holistic work or realization it needs, as I mentioned before, like yoga, like Pilates, like meditation, and something as simple and this is very simple, you guys, you don't even have to pay for it, visiting your friends and family or spending time with them. I know that these days it’s pretty hard to desire to just get a plan and go places. Some people are doing it, but some others are a little more shy, doing that. They even get Zoom and have a conversation with your friends and your family. That can be very beneficial for your mental health. So it is crucial to maintain harmony in your life by taking care of both your body and your mind, because when you are feeling healthy, both physically and emotionally, they both go together, you are able to face the challenges that life bring yourself and those we cannot escape.

Okay, there are everyday challenges, there are everyday ups and downs. Life is not a straight line, that is something that I have realized, life is not in a straight line. Things are gonna go really, really high, and then they get to stop and then they're gonna go down, then they get to go up again and we have to learn to ride with it. We have to learn to ride with it, but in order to do that really well, we need to be stable in our mind and our body, in our hearts, in our spirit, because they are connected. They are connected and that is a big reason why we need to focus on healing our minds and our bodies. Okay, when you feel healthy, physically and emotionally, it’s a game-changer. Friends, it’s a game-changer. You can perform better, you can give more love to yourself and to others. You can do things that you probably didn’t think you could do because you are healing yourself because you are paying attention to the things that are not together,  that are not in place. If something is bothering you, physically, you have to pay attention to that. If something is bothering you emotionally, you have to pay attention to that and remember, they go together. We cannot face our physical body without fixing our mental and emotional selves.

So, stressing your life, not only happens in physical impact but emotionally as well. That's why it's important to take those steps to reduce that stress in your life by practicing what I just told you. So if you don't, let me tell your friends, your life is going to go in a downward spiral because that's what it did for me. Even though I was preaching and teaching, these exact things that I'm telling you,  I was not applying it to me. The most important person who needed it the most, because you can't give what you don't have. So now I feel super guilty because I think I'm not sure that I was giving my 100% because I was running on an empty cup and that wasn't always, okay, let me remember that, let me remind you that that wasn't always, but I allow myself to get to that point where my cup was running and empty. You can’t give from an empty cup, you have to fill it up to the point that is like overflowing, that you have so much to give, because you can’t keep it all with you, because there's going to be a whole mess, right? Then the carpet is just like overflowing and stuff pouring all over the place, but that overflow, you are going to be able to share it. You're going to be able to share with your friends, with your families, with your clients, with strangers, people that you don't even know who they are because that is what life colors for. That's what we are here in this world for, it’s to share, it’s to help, it’s to add value to others, but in order to do that, we need to be in a position to do so, we need to be overflowing, not just to have 75%, 80%, you have to have your cup filled. Yes, there are times when maybe your cup is not overflowing, but you are aware of how much you can give. Yeah, not like me that I was probably less than half and I was trying to give more than what my cup had and that was not a good thing, because I was giving when I didn’t have and so the more I give, the more empty I was being and I was running on low. You don't want to get that way, my friends, you want to be overflowing, so you can give the best of you and that is why it's so important to heal our body and our mind and not only that, our hearts and our spirit.

Okay, so the first thing is to become aware, to make sure that you ask that question, how are you feeling? Look at yourself in the mirror and do it. Are you empty or a low cup? Are you running in a low cup or are you overflowing? Then look at the things that you can do to help yourself, if you are not eating right, if you are not exercising enough, if you need to see a therapist or a coach, you need to reach out for those things that are holistic that can help you. What are those things that you are putting in place to help yourself? What practices are you going to put in place to make sure that you are filling your cup up ‘til you overflow, so you can give more?
