Creating habits helps us reach our goals and make improvements in our daily lives. However, some people find it hard to create a new habit and it is even harder to stick to it. They become discouraged before even starting and eventually, they give up. This is because we sometimes think about the setbacks and we lack a positive mindset when we create these habits.
In this episode, I discuss the importance of having a positive mindset to create new habits. I share here some tips that I also personally use to stay positive and motivated in my life.

Welcome back friends with your host Mariana Thomas, on Episode 60, the importance of having a positive mindset so we can create new habits. Yes, even recording a podcast is a habit. It has to slip into your calendar, so it needs to be a habit. Okay, you are probably thinking a habit is just part of the to-do list. Well, everything on your to-do list is basically a habit. Okay, so if you don’t make those into habits, it's going to be easier to give up on them. So everything that we do, needs to become a habit. Okay, it is part of our routine. You have a habit of doing your exercise. You have a habit of recording a podcast. Whatever that is. So maintaining a positive mindset is going to be very essential when it comes to creating those new habits. You become discouraged every time you slip up because let me tell you, there are sometimes that I'm like, “Oh, no, I need to record.”, and I have other things that are, you know, in my calendar, because what? You can be discouraged. You got to stay in positivity and get to it. So, if you become discouraged, you're going to give up before you even start and you will find it very difficult to make lasting changes in your life. So a positive mindset is going to allow you to stay motivated and focus on your goals and it helps you to stay positive through the inevitable setbacks and failures, that are going to appear at some point. So learn to fail forward.

When you are in a positive frame of mind, you are more likely to take action and make progress towards your goals, because when you are feeling negative or doubtful, it is easy to get stuck and you are going to make a little progress or no progress at all when you are in a negative mindset.

If you want to create new habits, it is important to start by cultivating a positive mindset. See, one of the most important things you can do to achieve success in any area of your life is to add that positivity. Your mind needs to be positive. When you are constantly telling yourself that you cannot do something or that you are not good enough, it becomes harder to reach your goals, but when you believe in yourself and maintain a positive outlook, it is easier not only to create new habits but also to overcome setbacks and persevere through difficult times. You are going to push through when you have that positive mindset.

So, if one of your New Year's resolutions is to establish better habits, make sure to keep a positive attitude, you know, that's one of the things that we can control, and focus on your success, no matter how small they may seem, because by doing so, you will be more likely to reach your goals in the long run, and that is what we want. We don’t want short-term goals, we want to stay in it. So let me give you some tips for staying positive and motivated. I use those for myself, and I hope that you can incorporate those into your life.

Number one, set realistic goals. You know, it is really easy, sometimes to dream a little higher, and make it so unattainable, that it’s going to be very difficult to do it. So trying to make too many changes at once when you're trying to create new habits, can be a little overwhelming and almost doubting. So you are going to doubt yourself, it is much more likely that you will give up if your goals are too high. So break down your goals into small ones. So you can manage them better, and you can create steps that can be more realistic to achieve.

Number two, celebrate. Yes, celebrate your success. Okay, celebrate, don't dwell on the failures or the setbacks, just focus on the progress that you are making, and it doesn't matter how small the progress is. Give yourself a pat on the back each time you take a step in the right direction. This one is really hard for me to do, but I had to force myself to celebrate no matter how small it may be. This is going to help you to stay motivated and focus on your goal because you are celebrating every little step that you're taking.

Number three, stay mindful of your language. Yes, my friends, the words you use can have a powerful impact on your mindset. Use positive, motivating words to describe yourself. Yes, to describe yourself and your goals and avoid completely using those self-defeating language. You know that “I’m not good enough”, that “I can’t do that”, that “I’m not old enough”, not enough or whatever.

Number four, visualize your success. This one is beautiful because I love practicing visualization. So it's really easy for me. So imagine how you will feel when you reach your goal. Visualize yourself taking the actions required to achieve your goals and feel this sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when you finally achieve it, when you finally get there. This my friends will help you to stay motivated along the way. It really really does because it's almost like daydreaming kind of thing.

And number five, this one is really beautiful, because you are going to be surrounding yourself with more people. So number five is to find a support group. Surround yourself with positivity, with positive people who will encourage and support you in your journey towards creating change and towards creating new habits. These people can be, I don't know, your friends, your family members, or even an online community of like-minded individuals. You know, there are so many out there, depending on what your goals are, what is it that you're trying to create? I love working with a mentor and a group that is reaching for the same things. Okay, so that is what I do. So I hope that you do the same. I hope that you reach for a mentor or a coach because if you follow these steps, you are going to be able to create a positive mindset that is going to help you achieve your goals and create lasting changes in your life. The truth is, my friends, that having a positive mindset can help you achieve just about anything that you set your mind to.

I promise you, positivity is way better than staying on the dark side. So if you are looking to start the new year, on the right foot, I want you to start considering implementing some of these steps that I just gave you. Okay, number one, let’s go back to it. Set realistic goals. Number two, celebrate your success. Number three stay mindful of your language. Number four, visualize your success, and number five, find a support group.
