But no worries,  because I am here to share with you how to overcome these limiting beliefs and how to change them for the better. These tips can surely help you conquer your limiting beliefs and reach your full potential.

In today’s episode, I am going to talk about what are limiting beliefs and how they can affect you. This is a short episode, I am super excited, my voice is getting better. And let’s go to it. Hello, everyone and welcome back to the Mindfully Recharged podcast. This is your host, Mariana Thomas. In today’s episode, I want to talk to you about what are limiting beliefs and how they can affect you. Yes, I have been thinking about limiting beliefs lately, and by the way, my voice is getting better, everyone. That’s pretty exciting. You know last week, was a little hard to record but anyways, here I am, back with you, and limiting belief is something that is really hard to overcome. But if you work on it, you can do it, you and I can do it.

So, limiting beliefs are thoughts that you have about yourself and the world around you.  And I think it’s something that starts from childhood, you know? We grew up in a world where people tell us what to do. People want to instill ideas and concepts in your mind and if you allow these to happen, you’re gonna grow up with that and create limiting beliefs in your world. So, let’s put it very simple. Self-limiting beliefs are assumptions, right? Or perceptions that you have got about yourself and about the way the world works. For example, I’ll give you a, for example, when I was growing up, my grandma used to say, “Money doesn’t grow on trees, you know. I don’t go outside and just shake the tree and money is gonna fall down into the ground.” Well, obviously not, and money doesn’t grow on trees, grandma. It’s energy, money is energy and also, you have to work for it. You have to have a plan, an idea, a concept, and go and make that money.

And we can go into deeper, but I just wanted to give you an idea of what self-limiting belief is. Because, for the longest time in my life, I keep thinking that “Oh my god. Money doesn’t grow on trees. You got to work really really hard about, you know, for your money and all these ideas about many many things because your grandmother or your parents, or friends, and family tells you things about all concepts in life and you grow with that. And those ideas hold you back from reaching your goals, so these assumptions are self-limiting because, in some way, they are holding you back from achieving your goals and your potential. You know, it holds me back for the longest time in so many ways with the things that I heard growing up.

They can affect your life in a number of ways. Whether it be self-esteem issues, which we can see it in many people especially when you are a coach like me and you work with people, you can see these things and then you know coming from those limiting beliefs. And the other thing is not achieving goals because you think it is too hard. You know it is too hard to do this or to do that. I was just listening to someone a few minutes ago before I started recording and I just felt like this person was talking to me directly. You know because I still work really hard on my limiting beliefs. You know, sometimes I want to do something, and I tell myself, “Oh, it’s not in the right moment.” Well, when is it gonna be the right moment? You know, there is never the right moment or the right time. You just gotta go for it. Nothing is hard, it’s just you made these stories in your mind or beliefs and you believe them and paralyze yourself.

So, in this episode, let’s talk about more about how limiting beliefs can impact your life, and what you can do to change them for the better. So often, we are unconscious about what we believe and how those beliefs affect our actions. Our limiting beliefs can cause us to miss out on the things that we want the most. Trust me, I have been there. For the longest time, I wanted to create a podcast, and I hold myself back for months, and months, and months, because I was worried about what people were gonna think about me. “Oh my god. She has an accent. Who does she think she is to create a podcast?” That was a limiting belief. Who cares? I just needed to do it, because I am not doing it for those that are gonna think that way.  But I am doing it for those that are ready to receive what I have to say, or what I have to give, or the people that I bring as a guest to my podcast.

So, an empowerment, or empowering beliefs can drive us towards the life that we want to live if we work on getting rid of these limiting beliefs. Whether your reasons or whatever your reasons are, there is always a limiting belief. It’s what you do with that limiting belief is what’s going to be important. Because limiting belief can have a number of negative effects on you. You know? They can keep you from making good choices. Maybe you make the choice that is not the right one for you. It can also keep you from taking your opportunities. How many times you have, had an opportunity in front of you that you didn’t take because of your limiting beliefs? Because you didn’t believe that you could do it.  Because you didn’t believe in yourself? That is keeping you from reaching your potential, and in the end, limiting beliefs can keep you stuck in a negative state of mind, and hinder you from living the life that you truly desire.

That is the thing about limiting beliefs. That is how they hold us, all of us back if we don’t get hold of this. Okay? So, that is how it can affect your life, and mine if we don’t pay attention. But let me give you a few steps that we can use to get rid of these limiting beliefs. You know, I’m sure that there are many out here but let’s start with just six of them. And one of the things that I do, and I’m gonna give you this, is to write out your negative beliefs. What are the things that you think that are negative? Why are you thinking this? Is it true? Ask yourself that question. Why am I thinking this then write them down. What are the negative beliefs that you think?

The second one is to determine what instills this belief. Where did they come from? You know, who told you this? Why did you believe these negative things? Then find the answers to it. The third is to determine your new positive beliefs or change this behavior. Right? So, if it’s a negative one, how can I change it to a positive? What is that thing that I can tell myself that is going to help me to move the needle forward? And now the fourth one, look for evidence. Where are you applying these limiting beliefs? Where is it showing up for you? How are you attacking these limiting beliefs? Look for evidence throughout your day. You know, where is it showing up for you, once again.

Number five, think of the worst-case and how you would overcome it. So, if you are using this negative belief, where is it showing up, and what was the result. How was the result? Now, you determine a new positive belief in number three, okay? So, if you use this positive belief, how will you overcome the negativity, that was the first one, that you were thinking about? Okay? And the last one, start affirming yourself. So, now that you discover your negative belief, you determine what instills this belief in your life, you know, how this came about. How did you determine this new positive belief, you look for evidence, okay? Now think the worst case. Use it and use that positive belief to overcome and with that result, create a new affirmation.

So now, instead of using that negative thought, what is the new conversation that you are going to have with yourself about this belief that is now transformed. Because guess what? You did the work. But you got to do this with each limiting belief that you may have in your mind and is showing up in your life right now. I’m sure you know exactly what it is, you just gotta go through it. Okay? So, those are the six steps to get rid of your limiting beliefs, at least the ones that I am giving you today.  Okay? And to end, the power in your mind is really strong. You may not have thought about the way limiting beliefs can affect you, but they do. I want you to think about this when you’re doing the exercise. So, it is time to change that for the better. So, that you can move forward so that you can stop being trapped by your thoughts and negative beliefs. Okay? So, all these things that we talked about, I want you to practice it. I want you to go over these steps and create a new conversation.
